Since my mom was a florist for umpteen years and did a LOT of gift baskets, I’ll pass along her trick for making a gift basket look “full” - stuff the basket with a “space-taker-upper” and put all the fixings on top of that. You don’t need to put 30 things in a basket - Mom found that that caused “gift overload,” and 10-12 items is a good limit. (Otherwise your basket is too big for the stuff you’re putting in it!)

KITCHEN HERB GARDEN — One of my favorite wedding shower gifts is a kitchen window herb garden. I start cuttings of various herbs in terra cotta pots that are either painted or wrapped in colorful paper to match the couple’s kitchen.  I then type up instructions on how to care for the herbs as well as recipes that include each of the herbs (I always do this, once I gave someone fresh mint and they had no idea what to do with it).  The recipes include everything from fresh dill bread to quick pasta sauces.  I arrange the plants in a basket, include a bottle of two of my herb flavored vinegar or oil and tie some ribbons to the basket. You can add more or less depending on how elaborate you want the basket to be. I usually only give this as a shower gift.  Many people do not open wedding
presents till after they return from their honeymoon so the herbs might not last that long without light and water.
