Civil War Chess Set

civil war chess setI was looking for something original to give to my dad for his birthday. I have actually been to several stores, but I have not found anything extra special to give him. I found this beautiful civil war chess set on this online shop, and I just know that he will love it because he is both a historian and a chess enthusiast.

Browsing through the site is so much fun because I also found stuff that I want to buy for myself.

Gift Giving Advice

Beach TowelSince my mom was a florist for umpteen years and did a LOT of gift baskets, I’ll pass along her trick for making a gift basket look “full” - stuff the basket with a “space-taker-upper” and put all the fixings on top of that. Easter “grass,” raffia shreds, crumpled tissue paper, etc. For a bath-stuff basket a folded-up BIG bath towel (I’ve seen gorgeous ones masquerading as beach towels for under $5 at places like Bradlees) fills up space well. If you invested in a paper shredder to shred your paid bills and junk mail,  you’re all set - run old magazines through it and get lots of brightly colored basket filler. You don’t need to put 30 things in a basket - Mom found that that caused “gift overload,” and 10-12 items is a good limit. (Otherwise your basket is too big for the stuff you’re putting in it!)
